How does Self Storage work?

Storage facilities, like A+ Storage, offer storage units (storage space similar to a garage) on a month-to-month basis for rental when you need more space. After renting your storage unit, you simply move your belongings in, and then you have access to your belongings 24 hours a day. A+ Storage provides you with a super secure disc lock and an access code to our gated property to ensure protection of your property. We also have cameras and LED lighting for additional security. When you no longer need the space, give the office a call to let us know, then move your belongings out of the storage unit. The lock is yours to keep so remove the lock from your storage unit, shut the door, and take the lock with you.

What Kind of Things Can I Put in a Storage Unit?

A+ Storage has multiple sizes and types of storage units for storage of a wide variety of items. From furniture and boxes, excess belongings, seasonal items, lawn mowers, snow blowers, and vehicles, storage units can be used for many different things. Businesses can store office supplies, boxes, extra stock and promotional items. Many people use storage to de-clutter their house when they are trying to sell, to remove clutter to make room in their garage or to store seasonal decorations. We recommend storing family heirlooms, wood or leather furniture, electronics, appliances, artwork and photography in a climate-controlled storage unit. You should not use self-storage units for anything that is illegal, hazardous and toxic.You cannot live in a storage unit.

When is my Payment Due?

Your first payment is due upon completion of your lease. Your storage payment is always due on the 1st of the month. We offer a grace period for payment through the 8th of the month. If you pay after the 8th you will be assessed a twenty-dollar late fee on the 9th of the month.

What Forms of Payment do You Accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, checks, cash and money orders. We also accept payments online through our website once you are a tenant. We will accept credit card payments over the phone during office hours.

Who Else Has Access to my Storage Unit?

The unit you rent is secured with your lock and your key – only you can decide who has access to your unit. It’s our policy to never give anyone who isn’t on your rental agreement access or information about your storage unit. You are free to provide your unit number, key, and gate-code access to anyone of your choosing as long as you’re comfortable with them accessing your unit.

I Am Moving Out Early, Do You Pro-Rate My Final Month?

At A+ Storage you rent your storage unit on a month-to-month basis so we do not pro-rate your final month.

What Size Unit Should I Rent?

A+ Storage has multiple sizes and prices for every budget. We have smaller size units like 5×10 (size of a small closet) to as big as a 12×50 for entire households or vehicles. Most vehicles can fit into a 10×20 (size of single car garage) and we also offer 11×20 and 12×20 for extra room. If the storage size you need is available at one of our three properties you can rent it. If you have questions regarding which size is right for you, please review our Storage Planning Guide to find exactly the storage space you need. If you have any additional questions regarding unit sizes, storage types, or prices, please don’t hesitate to contact our office and we can help you decide. Or drop by one of our local storage facilities and we can show you your options. You can always move to a bigger or smaller size or get an additional unit as long as one is available.

How Do I Rent a Storage Unit?

Come into the A+ Storage office to complete your lease, make your payment, and get your lock and keys and gate access code.
For the Sun Prairie and Windsor/DeForest properties our office is located at:

If you can’t make it into the office, please give us a call and we can facilitate your lease and payment over the phone and via email. We will make arrangements with you to pick up the lock at your convenience.

How Long Can I Rent a Unit?

You can rent your storage unit for as long (or short) as you need it. We offer month-to-month leases and bill in one-month increments. If you need your storage unit for a longer term, we offer your twelfth month free upon payment in advance for eleven months. We strive to make your storage experience as simple and easy as possible.

Is there a Security Deposit?

No. We do not require a security deposit. We do collect a $25 Administration/Set-Up Fee when you move into your unit. If you would like to pay for six months of storage rent in advance at the time of your move-in we will waive the $25 Fee.

I'm Ready to Move Out of my Unit - Do You Require Notice?

No. We appreciate when you let us know ahead of time but we do not require any advance notice. If you are set up on Auto Pay it is important to let the office know you are moving out before the next Auto Pay is run. Please remember to take your lock. If your lock is on the unit after you move out of the unit we won’t know you have vacated the unit.

I Can't Find the Key to my Unit - What Can I do?

If you lose all three keys to your lock we can cut the lock for you. We do charge $30 for this service so be sure to look for your extra keys. Please keep in mind, if you do try to cut your own lock, a regular bolt cutter will not work on our disc locks and you may damage the slide-bolt and door, both of which you will be liable for.
